The Law Enforcement Officers Charitable Foundation, Inc. was established in 1998 as a non-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.  Its mission is to honor the dedicated and courageous men and women of the law enforcement community of Miami-Dade County, as well as to provide funding for the Police Officers Assistance Trust (P.O.A.T.) and other charitable organizations.  The LEO Foundation works in conjunction with the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police whose members include federal, state and local law enforcement and prosecuting officials.

The organization is overseen by Chairman Andrew A. Vera CPA, a retired 26 year police captain of the City of Miami Police Department along with a committee of volunteer high ranking members from various local police agencies. Founded by Donald Carlin, he believed that the members, both sworn and civilian, serving in law enforcement deserved to be recognized in the most prestigious way possible. Mr. Carlin's dream was to show his appreciation by hosting a yearly gala in which the entire community as well as the various police agencies would participate in honoring the best of the best. As a result, the annual LEO Gala was born.

On March 7th, 2020, the LEO Foundation will be hosting it's 20th Annual LEO Gala at the Trump National Doral Miami.  This black-tie event is inspired after the Academy of Television Arts & Science Emmy Awards with 600 guests expected to be in attendance this year.  Winners receive the beautiful solid bronze LEO Trophy.  Also during the event the Miami-Dade County Officer of the Year is announced.

Our warmest thanks go out to our many sponsors for whom this foundation, the annual awards gala and the generous donations to POAT and other charities would not be possible.
